DC WALKING TOURS:

SEE THE WORLD, SAVE THE WORLD

Our story is simple: boy meets girl, girl is mean to boy, they start dating, girl gets cancer and they decide to start their own social good enterprise after realizing that life is short and fragile. It’s a vision dreamt up by Bo Hammond, a former history major and DC tour guide, and his cancer fighting, business guru girlfriend Lisa Maurer.

Ever since Lisa’s battle with cancer we wanted to do something meaningful to fight the disease and make the world better in general. We’re avid fundraisers, raising money for charities such as American Cancer Society and Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We want to stop struggling to find ways to deliver a lump sum to our favorite charities at some hazy point in the future. Why should helping people be part time?

We shouldn’t be forced to separate any of our life’s ambitions whether it’s personal, professional or philanthropic. We want to give every day of our lives. The more we give, the more we live.

In that spirit, we decided to combine our passions of history, business and giving to create a social enterprise. Tours for Humanity uses history to help people. We provide walking tours of Washington, DC such as the National Mall, Arlington Cemetery, Capitol Hill and many more. At the end of the year our company donates a portion of profits to charities combating ignorance, poverty and disease. Every part of our company, right down to our uniforms, does good in the world. Our goal is to help people and make money doing it. It’s a way to address two essential needs with an action that unifies them both.

Where we give

We're in business to make a difference.

With every tour you take, Tours For Humanity will donate a portion of profits to charities.

Be part of something better.

Tours for humanity will give a portion of its profits to three charities, with a mission to fight ignorance, poverty or disease. Our first charity was chosen because one of our founders, Lisa Maurer, is a cancer survivor and is nominated for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Woman of the Year campaign. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world's largest voluntary (nonprofit) health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services.

The second charity we give to is Ashoka. We chose Ashoka because it provides start-up financing, professional support services, and connections to a global network across the business and social sectors, and a platform for people dedicated to changing the world. Ashoka is the largest network of social entrepreneurs worldwide, with nearly 3,000 Ashoka Fellows in 70 countries putting their system changing ideas into practice on a global scale.

Our third charity will be chosen by a vote from our top donors in our Indiegogo campaign. We believe that our supporters should be rewarded with the choice of what global cause we should support. This charity will rotate every year based on a vote from our network.
